What oral surgery covers
Oral surgery deals with surgical questions in the mouth: the surgical removal of teeth and wisdom teeth, apicoectomy to preserve a tooth, bone augmentation and sinus lift as preparation for implants, and the removal of cysts or displaced teeth. Every procedure is planned beforehand based on findings and imaging.
Surgical tooth removal
If a tooth cannot simply be extracted, for example because it is displaced or has fractured roots, it is removed surgically. This often applies to wisdom teeth, but also to heavily damaged teeth. The procedure is carried out gently under local anaesthesia.
Apicoectomy
If an inflammation at the root tip persists after a root canal, it can be removed surgically instead of extracting the tooth. The apicoectomy is often the last way to preserve a natural tooth.
Bone augmentation and sinus lift
After prolonged tooth loss, the jawbone has often receded. Before an implant we build up bone if needed. In the posterior upper jaw, the sinus lift is used to create sufficient bone height for an implant.
3D imaging
If a procedure lies close to the nerve canal or the sinus, we plan it with a CBCT scan. The three-dimensional representation shows the anatomical structures before the procedure and reduces the risk of injury.
Specialist and sedation
Surgical procedures are carried out by Dr. Dragisic, specialist in oral surgery, in Zurich Bellevue. On request or for more extensive procedures we work with sedation. What makes sense for your situation is discussed before the procedure.
