What oral surgery covers

Oral surgery deals with surgical questions in the mouth: the surgical removal of teeth and wisdom teeth, apicoectomy to preserve a tooth, bone augmentation and sinus lift as preparation for implants, and the removal of cysts or displaced teeth. Every procedure is planned beforehand based on findings and imaging.

Surgical tooth removal

If a tooth cannot simply be extracted, for example because it is displaced or has fractured roots, it is removed surgically. This often applies to wisdom teeth, but also to heavily damaged teeth. The procedure is carried out gently under local anaesthesia.

Apicoectomy

If an inflammation at the root tip persists after a root canal, it can be removed surgically instead of extracting the tooth. The apicoectomy is often the last way to preserve a natural tooth.

Bone augmentation and sinus lift

After prolonged tooth loss, the jawbone has often receded. Before an implant we build up bone if needed. In the posterior upper jaw, the sinus lift is used to create sufficient bone height for an implant.

3D imaging

If a procedure lies close to the nerve canal or the sinus, we plan it with a CBCT scan. The three-dimensional representation shows the anatomical structures before the procedure and reduces the risk of injury.

Specialist and sedation

Surgical procedures are carried out by Dr. Dragisic, specialist in oral surgery, in Zurich Bellevue. On request or for more extensive procedures we work with sedation. What makes sense for your situation is discussed before the procedure.

Protocol

Three steps.

  1. 01 · Findings and 3D planning

Examination and imaging, a CBCT scan if needed. We clarify the necessity of the procedure and you receive a cost estimate.

  2. 02 · The procedure

Carried out under local anaesthesia, sedation on request. The extent depends on findings and position.

  3. 03 · Healing and aftercare

Rules of conduct for wound healing, removal of sutures after a few days and a check-up complete the treatment.

Frequently asked

Frequently asked

What does oral surgery cover?

It includes the surgical removal of teeth and wisdom teeth, apicoectomy, bone augmentation and sinus lift as preparation for implants, and the removal of cysts or displaced teeth. Which procedure makes sense is clarified based on findings and imaging.

Are the procedures carried out by the specialist?

Yes. Surgical procedures are carried out by Dr. Dragisic, specialist in oral surgery, in Zurich Bellevue. This means complex cases also benefit from the corresponding training and experience.

Does the procedure hurt?

During the procedure the local anaesthesia ensures you feel nothing. On request we additionally work with sedation. After the procedure, wound pain is normal and well manageable with the recommended medication.

When is an apicoectomy needed?

When an inflammation at the root tip persists or recurs after a root canal, the root tip can be removed surgically to preserve the tooth. It is one way to save a tooth before it has to be extracted.

What does a procedure cost?

Costs depend on the type and extent of the procedure. We bill according to the SSO tariff and provide a written cost estimate before treatment begins, which you can submit to your supplementary insurance.

Root canal or tooth extraction. When preservation is worthwhile.

With an inflamed tooth nerve the question of preservation or extraction arises. The root canal treatment saves your own tooth root with success rates of 85 to 95 percent. Extraction is the faster solution but leaves a gap that must be closed with an implant or bridge. The decision depends on tooth remaining substance, bone situation, costs and treatment duration.
