What veneers are
Veneers are wafer-thin ceramic shells bonded to the front of the visible teeth. They correct shape, shade, small gaps, cracks and discoloration that cannot be bleached out. Compared with a crown, considerably more of the tooth’s own structure is preserved, because only the visible surface is restored.
When veneers make sense
Veneers suit corrections on intact or only slightly damaged front teeth: discoloured teeth that do not respond to whitening, small gaps, chipped corners or slightly irregular shapes. Healthy gums and sufficiently stable teeth are a prerequisite. In case of heavy grinding we clarify this beforehand, because the load can stress the veneers.
Veneers, whitening or a crown
If it is only about lighter teeth, whitening is the gentler and cheaper solution. If it is about shape and shade together, veneers have the edge. If a tooth is heavily damaged or root-treated, a crown protects the whole tooth better. We decide together based on the findings and your goal.
The process
After the consultation we plan shape and shade and show a preview on request. The teeth are then minimally prepared and scanned. While the veneers are made in the lab, you wear a temporary restoration. At the final appointment we check fit and shade and bond the veneers permanently.
From our own lab
Veneers are made in our own laboratory in Zurich. Shade and shape are aligned directly between dentist and dental technician. This makes the individual match to your remaining teeth easier and shortens the distances.
Durability and care
Veneers are cared for like your own teeth: daily cleaning and regular dental hygiene. If you grind at night, protect the shells with a splint. Very hard objects should not be bitten with the front teeth. This keeps veneers stable for many years.
