When specialized treatment makes sense

Not every treatment requires a specialized practitioner. Routine treatments are performed by general dentists at the closest-to-home location. We recommend specialist treatment for:

  • Complex implantation with bone augmentation, sinus lift or aesthetic demand in the front area.
  • Full restoration with All-on-4 or All-on-6.
  • Peri-implantitis treatment with bone reconstruction.
  • Complex orthodontic treatments with combined surgical-orthodontic procedure.
  • Treatment under general anesthesia or deep sedation due to phobia, disability or extensive procedures.
  • Treatment of children with complex treatment need under general anesthesia.

How treatment is organized

  1. Initial consultation at any Resident location with assessment and history.
  2. Indication: if specialized treatment is sensible, we refer internally to the responsible specialist.
  3. Written treatment plan with the specialist treatment in detail. More in the article on the cost estimate.
  4. Treatment at the specialist location with full infrastructure and team support.
  5. Aftercare usually at the closest-to-home location, with jointly shared patient file between all locations.

More on location choice in the article Resident locations compared, on implant treatment choice in the article Choose implant location and Implant or bridge.

Frequently asked

Frequently asked

Who performs the complex implantations at Resident?

The main practitioner for complex implantations, bone augmentation and All-on-4 restorations is Dr. Dejan Dragisic, oral surgery specialist, at the Bellevue location in Zurich. The clinical lead in implantology across the whole group is Dr. Markus Franke, who is available at all six locations. Routine implants are also placed by the general dentists at the respective locations.

Do I have to travel to another location for specialist treatment?

Only if the treatment requires it. Complex implantations, bone augmentation and All-on-4 we perform at the Bellevue location, complex orthodontics at one of the four orthodontics locations. The initial consultation and aftercare are usually possible at the closest-to-home location. Your patient file is shared between all locations, so treatment runs seamlessly.

Does Resident also treat implants placed at another practice?

Yes. Dr. Dragisic also treats complications and peri-implantitis on implants placed at other practices or abroad. The prerequisite is a careful assessment with an X-ray or 3D image, so that we can clarify the starting situation and the right approach.

Can I have dental treatment under general anaesthesia or sedation?

Yes. The Resident group has its own anaesthesia team with anaesthesiology specialists. Intravenous sedation and general anaesthesia are possible, depending on the location. This makes sense with pronounced dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex or extensive procedures in one session. Which method fits we discuss before treatment.

When do I actually need specialist treatment?

Not every treatment requires a specialist. Routine treatments are handled by the general dentists at the home location. We recommend specialist treatment for complex implantations with bone augmentation, full restorations, peri-implantitis, combined surgical-orthodontic cases or treatments under anaesthesia. We clarify this at the initial consultation.
